Clan Farquharson Connection ...
In 1723 a group of Bowmans from Glenmuick and Glenesk, who claimed to be descendants of the Lyon Family who ancestors had moved into the mountainous regions of Deeside, approached the Earl of Strathmore as the head of the Lyon Clan, requesting permission to change their surname from Bowman to Lyon. The Earl granted their request, however, the families chose to remained in Glenmuick and keep allegiance to the Farquharson Clan.
